Earthquake of magnitude 7 strikes Indonesia's Lombok island, Tsunami alert issued

Bangkok, Aug 5: An earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale struck Indonesia's Lombok island on Sunday. A tsunami alert has been issued following the powerful earthquake said reports.

The latest quake had a magnitude of seven and struck just 10 km underground, the USGS said.

Officials have issued a tsunami warning and urged people to move away from the ocean.

"Please go to a place with higher ground, while remaining calm and not panicking," Dwikorita Karnawati, head of the agency for meteorology, climatology and geophysics, told local TV, as per an AFP report.

Last month, an earthquake had left 17 people dead in Lombok island.
