The importance of maintaining a greater safety distance between vehicles during rainy weather has been emphasized by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). An alert issued on X, formerly known as Twitter, serves as a reminder to the public about the necessity of closely following these guidelines. For those who need to drive for work or other essential reasons, awareness of the rules and the significant fines associated with breaking them is important. The act of documenting rain-soaked roads while driving is discouraged to maintain focus on driving and ensure the safety of all road users.

Taking to X, Dubai Police wrote, "Amidst the current weather conditions experienced across the country, Dubai Police remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the security and safety of community members. In collaboration with strategic partners, a dedicated team of specialized cadres working around the clock, as per the best International standards, to ensure the utmost safety of community members."

Driving Risks and Penalties in Dubai

In Dubai, traffic laws are strictly enforced, especially during adverse weather conditions, to prevent accidents and ensure public safety. Violating these laws not only endangers lives but can also lead to the accumulation of black points, which may result in a six-month license suspension if they reach 24, as reported by OneArabia.

Hazard Lights: The use of hazard lights while driving in the rain is discouraged because it can cause confusion and increase the risk of accidents. Instead, drivers should pull over and wait for severe conditions to pass. Misusing hazard lights can result in a Dh500 fine and four black points.

Mobile Phone Use: Using a mobile phone while driving in rainy conditions is a serious offence that significantly distracts the driver and raises the risk of accidents. Offenders face a Dh800 fine and four black points.

Lane Discipline: Proper lane discipline is crucial, especially in challenging weather. Abrupt lane changes without signalling can be dangerous and result in a Dh400 fine.

Reckless Driving: Reckless driving, which includes sudden swerving and ignoring traffic signals, carries severe penalties. Violators face a Dh2,000 fine, 23 black points, and a 60-day vehicle impoundment.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police stress the importance of prioritizing safety and exercising caution while driving in rainy conditions. By following guidelines and traffic laws, drivers can protect themselves and others on the road. It's advisable to avoid driving in uncertain conditions and wait for improved weather conditions for safer travel, as reported by OneArabia.
