Beijing, July 28: Staff of a shopping mall where a woman was killed after being trapped in escalator were aware about the broken escalator, media reported.

Victim identified as 30-year-old Xiang Liujuan was killed on an escalator going upwards at a mall in Jingzhou, when the landing platform collapsed, trapping her inside the still-moving machinery.

The 'heroic' lady, somehow, managed to push her son into the arms of shop attendants near the top of the escalator.

The attendants tried to pull her to safety, but Xiang fell into the mechanism and was killed. Media reports say her body was recovered four hours later, after crews disassembled the escalator.

It took more than four hours to recover her body, after the escalator was disassembled. The bone-chilling video was caught on the CCTV surveillance camera.

It has now emerged that staff at the Jingzhou mall knew screws on the footplate had worked loose five minutes before the incident.
