Chile: Pregnant canine breastfeeds malnourished 2-year-old boy

Santiago, Sept 6: In a heart-wrenching incident in Chile, a pregnant canine kept alive a malnoursihed and an abandoned 2-year-old boy, by breastfeeding him.

The noble gesture of the dog, Reina, has garnered worldwide media attention.

The incident happened on Thursday, Sept 3, in the desert port of Arica, more than 1,000 miles away from Santiago, Chile's capital.

Media reports said that the boy was suffering from skin infection and lice infestation.

Lory Escudero, a witness, alerted the police authorities that a hungry and an almost naked boy was suckling on her pregnant dog.

The Chilean police took the boy to a hospital, where he was discharged on Friday, Sept 4. He is presently under the care of child welfare authorities.

His mother reportedly came to meet him in a drunken state, but she was not arrested as there was no physical harm to the child.

On Sept 22, a family court will begin the hearing that under whose custody child will live.
