Tulsi Gabbard Addresses Serious Allegations of Indian Government Directed Assassinations Against Americans

Allegations of foreign nations orchestrating assassinations against Americans are serious and warrant thorough investigation, according to Tulsi Gabbard. She was nominated by President Donald Trump to lead US intelligence agencies. During her confirmation hearing for the Director of National Intelligence role, she addressed concerns about a federal indictment involving an "Indian government employee" allegedly plotting against a Sikh activist in New York City in 2023.

Gabbard Discusses Allegations of Assassinations

Gabbard was also questioned about Canadian accusations against India regarding the assassination of Hardeep Singh Niijar, a Sikh activist and Canadian citizen, in June 2023. She was asked about her perspective on these allegations and their impact on US-India relations, including security cooperation. Her written responses were submitted to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence during the hearing.

US-India Relations and Security Concerns

Gabbard emphasised India's importance as an economic and security partner in the Indo-Pacific region. She stated that credible allegations of foreign-directed assassinations on US soil must be investigated thoroughly. The findings should be shared with the president and policymakers to inform decisions about the incident and bilateral relations.

She highlighted the complex nature of US-China relations, which involve military, economic, technological, and ideological aspects. These dimensions present both challenges and opportunities for advancing US interests and global stability. Gabbard pointed out China's recent Salt Typhoon cyberattack and hacking of the Treasury Department as significant threats.

The cyber incidents underscore vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure that need urgent attention. Gabbard noted China's advanced cyber capabilities and efforts to collect sensitive government data as areas of concern. Addressing these issues is crucial for maintaining national security.

Intelligence Failures and Accountability

In her opening remarks, Gabbard criticised past intelligence failures that have harmed US national security. She cited the Iraq invasion as a prime example of flawed intelligence leading to disastrous outcomes. This decision resulted in numerous American casualties, regional destabilisation, and strengthened extremist groups like ISIS.

Gabbard accused former CIA Director John Brennan of abusing power by spying on Congress to avoid oversight. Despite being caught, he faced no consequences. She also alleged that under President Biden, the FBI misused its authority for political purposes by surveilling traditional Latin Mass attendees.

Responding to critics, Gabbard clarified her stance against al-Qaeda and Islamist extremists. She expressed disdain for leaders who align with such groups under the guise of supporting rebels. She mentioned Syria's control by al-Qaeda offshoot HTS, led by an Islamist Jihadist responsible for American soldier deaths.

Gabbard's statements highlight her commitment to addressing intelligence shortcomings and ensuring accountability within agencies. Her focus remains on safeguarding national security while navigating complex international relationships.
