6.0-magnitude quake hits New Zealand
Wellington, May 4: An earthquake measuring six on the Richter scale hit New Zealand's South Island on Monday.
According to GeoNet, the island country's earthquake monitoring agency, the tremor centred 30 km north-west of Wanaka town, The New Zealand Herald reported.
The agency recorded the temblor as "severe".
Tremors were also felt as far as the capital city of Wellington which is near the North Island's southernmost point.
No casualties or damage to property have been reported yet.
Meanwhile, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Papua New Guinea too witnessed earthquakes last week. While Andaman islands was shook by a mild earthquake measuring 5.4 on Friday, Papua New Guinea witnessed a strong earthquake measuring 7.1 on the same day.
A strong earthquake jolted Nepal on April 25 killing over 6000 people and injuring more than 10,000 people.
