Woman Cries ‘Bomb’ At Mumbai Airport After Airlines Asks For Extra Baggage Payment

A private airline encountered an alarming situation when a female passenger, set to board a Mumbai-Kolkata flight, made a false bomb threat after being asked to pay for excess baggage. The 40-year-old woman was subsequently arrested for her negligent behavior.

The Sahar police have registered a case against the accused for allegedly creating a hoax bomb scare on Monday while attempting to board the Mumbai-Kolkata flight. Although she was granted bail on the same day, the police have refrained from disclosing her identity.

According to the authorities, a heated argument ensued between the woman and airline staff during check-in over the charges for her additional baggage. "The accused wanted to check in two bags, but the airline crew informed her that domestic passengers are only allowed to check in one bag. This sparked a dispute as the woman claimed she had not been informed of this policy in advance," said an officer from Sahar Police Station.

The woman spoke with multiple airline personnel, escalating the matter to higher-ranking individuals, but they all maintained that they couldn't accommodate her second bag. While the weight limit for each bag is 15 kg, the combined weight of the passenger's bags exceeded 22 kg, according to the police.

The airline staff requested the woman to pay the charges for the excess baggage, but she refused and engaged in a heated argument, as reported by the police. During this altercation, while attempting to explain the airline's rules, the woman abruptly declared that she had a bomb in her bag.

In response, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials promptly called in sniffer dogs to examine the bags. However, no incriminating evidence was found, and her bomb threat was proven to be false.

The woman has been charged under sections 336 (endangering the life or personal safety of others) and 505 (2) (statements causing public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code.
