Will Pranab get a second term? Here are the probables for President of India

Will Pranab Mukherjee get a second term as President of India? Who will the Bharatiya Janata Party choose as its presidential candidate is something that is being debated in the media almost every day. The presidential elections are slated to be held in July.

With the BJP managing to get closer to the magic mark in the electoral college, it has now started discussing the Presidential elections. The BJP has several names under consideration and sources say that senior leader L K Advani is a front-runner to the post.

A BJP source told OneIndia that there are many names doing the rounds. "We will propose these names to our allies before coming to a final conclusion," said the source. Reports suggested that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had suggested the names of Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi during a meet at Somnath recently.

The other names doing the rounds are Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Bihar Governor Ramnath Kovid, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Rajya Sabha member Narendra Jhadhav, Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu, Social Justice Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot and I&B Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.

There have also been talks in various quarters that President Pranab Mukherjee may just get a second term. The President has had a friendly relationship with the government. BJP sources say that nothing can be ruled out. Although it appears to be a distant possibility, many say that with Modi, anything is possible as he keeps everyone guessing and then goes against all speculations in the media.
