Will contest the 2016 Assembly polls from Titabar seat: Gogoi
Jorhat, Jan 30: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday said he will contest in the 2016 Assembly elections from the Titabar constituency in Jorhat district.
"I will of course contest in the 2016 elections. From today I will lead the electoral battle with renewed vigour," Gogoi reporters on the sidelines of a booth meeting at ward no. 10 in Jorhat town.

There were media reports about the possibility of Gogoi not contesting in the next Assembly elections. On reports about his detractors, those above 70-years of age and non-performers being denied a Congress party ticket, Gogoi said, most of the contestants will be from among the existing 79 MLAs with some new faces."
Gogoi has served as the Chief Minister consecutively since 2001 leading his party to a record three electoral wins in Assam.
