Wife of Former Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA Attempts Suicide Over Unresolved Land Dispute

The wife of former Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA Vijay Raghavendra Singh attempted suicide at the tehsil office in Katni district. On Thursday, Ranjeeta Singh poured kerosene on herself around 4 pm, but people nearby stopped her. She claimed her land dispute complaint was ignored. She said she bought land two years ago in Bilayat Kala village from Jahan Singh, but it is encroached upon.

Suicide Attempt by Former MLAs Wife in Katni

Ranjeeta Singh, a Barwara resident, purchased 1,176 square feet of land from Jahan Singh on September 15, 2021. However, Anurodh Tiwari from Bilayat Kala village currently occupies it. She alleged negligence by the Naib Tehsildar, which caused her significant mental stress. Her visits to the tehsil office over the past six months have been futile.

Land Dispute and Legal Proceedings

Barwara Naib Tehsildar Anuradha Singh stated that Ranjeeta Singh's case is registered with the revenue department. The other party has occupied the land since 1995, while Ranjeeta's name was registered in 2021. Due to its disputed nature, the case remains unresolved. Anuradha Singh denied allegations of negligence and confirmed that legal proceedings are ongoing in court.

Sub-Divisional Officer Revenue Pradeep Mishra accused Ranjeeta Singh of disrupting judicial proceedings. Consequently, a complaint was filed with the police. Barwara Sub Divisional Officer of Police SDOP Umrawo Singh confirmed receiving information about the suicide attempt at the tehsil office.

Police Intervention and Future Actions

Anurodh Tiwari's occupation of Ranjeeta's land remains a point of contention. A case will be filed for not removing the illegal encroachment once the Tehsildar issues a written order. SDOP Umrawo Singh stated that police will be deployed to evict the encroachers when necessary.

Ranjeeta Singh's frustration stems from her belief that her complaints have been ignored by authorities. The ongoing legal battle over land ownership continues to cause distress for her and highlights issues within local administrative processes.
