Why Pakistan Will Continue To Boil And There Is No Solution Around The Corner

The political crisis in Pakistan is showing no signs of ending. The army and Imran Khan are in confrontation mode and there is talk that the party of the latter, the PTI is likely to be banned for attacking government establishments.

Pakistan which has been sponsoring terror against India for years now has been on the boil for a variety of reasons. The country has been down economically and in terms of the terror front it has been facing its own problems.

Why Pakistan Will Continue To Boil And There is Solution Around The Corner

Following the arrest of former Pakistan prime minister, Imran Khan, there was widespread violence. One image where Lahore Corps Commander Lt Gen Salman Fayyaz Ghanni was seen pleading before the protesters to spare Jinnah House was quite telling. This only tells how on the back foot the Pakistan Army is.

The army has however decided not to cow down. It has been booking cases against Khan's supporters and the government has even threatened to ban the PTI.

Pakistan observers say that the turmoil will continue for more time. The judiciary in the country is seen to have a soft corner towards Khan and his party. While the army has been harsh on Khan's supporters, the judiciary has been coming to their rescue. Things are likely to change when the current chief justice of Pakistan retires in September later this year. In the same month, PTI appointed Pakistan president Arif Alvi also steps down and Pakistan would hope that this would bring down tensions in the country.

In addition to the violence, Pakistan is also grappling with the menace of terrorism. Data until April 2023 shows that the country has recorded a total of 226 terrorism related fatalities. The rise in the number of fatalities is mainly due to the increase in the number of incidents at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban has been the most violent groups in the country and had recently ended the ceasefire.

To add to the mess is the economic situation in the country with the IMF yet to release USD 1.1 billion. The inflows have been declining and Pakistan still attracts the lowest FDI in the region.

In a nut-shell Pakistan is in a mess in terms of political instability, economics and security. While the watchers say that things may improve by Septembers, officials OneIndia spoke with say that it is unlikely.
