A Mosque in Aligarh has been covered with tarpaulin ahead of the Hindu festival of Holi.

The Mosque in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh has been covered to prevent it from the colours, reports have said. The Mosque which has been covered has been identified as the Abdul Karim Masjid and is located in the most sensitive part of the city.

Why has this Aligarh Mosque in UP covered itself ahead of Holi

News agency ANI, the tarpaulins have been put up to maintain communal harmon in the region.

"Halwaiyan Mosque in Aligarh is covered with tarpaulin ahead of the Holi festival. It is happening for the last 4-5 years to ensure that colours don't splash on the walls of the mosque," ANI quoted Haji Mohammad Iqbal, the caretaker of the Mosque as saying.

He also said that the covers had been put on the instructions of the local administration and police.

"On the instructions of the administration, we cover the Mosque with tarpaulin so that no one can throw colour or dirt on the Mosque," he said.

Superintendent of Police, Aligarh, Abhishek confirmed the development and said that, the area is sensitive. This trend is followed so that communal harmony can be maintained in the area."

Akeel Pahalwan, a resident of the area said, "ever since the government of Yogi Adityanath has come to power in Uttar Pradesh, the Mosque is being covered for the past 6-7 years. With the help of the administration, we cover the Mosque so that no one throws colour or dirt."
