What’s brewing? ‘Disgruntled’ SP leader Shivpal Yadav meets UP CM Yogi Adityanath

After Yogi Adityanath met Prateek and Aparna Yadav, he is all set to meet another Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav.

Lucknow, April 5: After Mulayam Singh Yadav's son Prateek and daughter-in-law Aparna's recent two meetings with Yogi Adityanath, it was the turn of the Samajwadi Party patriarch's brother Shivpal Yadav to meet the new chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

The meeting, which lasted 30 minutes, is being termed in political corridors as "something more that a mere courtesy call". According to sources, Shivpal Yadav was mulling option beyond the Samajwadi Party, whose president he was till he was dislodged by his nephew before the state elections.

Before that, Prateek and Aparna met Adityanath at the VVIP Guest House in Lucknow after he was sworn-in as the chief minister of the state. During the brief meeting between the chief minister and the couple, the latter gifted the state head a bouquet of flowers.

Recently, we saw how the Samajwadi Party patriarch lashed out at his elder son and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav for betraying him. Moreover, Mulayam was caught on camera whispering into the ears of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Adityanath's swearing-in ceremony.

The infighting within the Samajwadi Party is known to all. Before the assembly elections, a bitter war of succession was witnessed within the party. The then chief minister of Uttar Pradesh managed to take control of the Samajwadi Party by sidelining his father Mulayam and uncle Shivpal.

However, after the humiliating debacle in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, it looks like the Samajwadi Party camp headed by Mulayam is trying to get close to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. In such a scenario, Akhilesh is left alone to revive the party which is almost in ruins now.
