WeatherUnion: Zomato CEO Announces Launch Of Weather Monitoring Platform Based On Crowd Support
After successfully operating popular delivery applications Zomato and Blinkit in India, CEO Deepinder Goyal on Wednesday announced to launch a weather monitoring platform, WeatherUnion. Sharing the information on X, Goyal said WeatherUnion is going to be India's first crowd-supported weather infrastructure, which will provide localised, real-time information on key weather parameters such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, rainfall etc.
He said that WeatherUnion will have 650+ on-ground weather stations, the largest private infrastructure of its kind in India.

The application currently monitors weather across 45 cities and soon will expand to the rest of the county. Goyal said that WeatherUnion has collaborated with CAS - IIT Delhi and soon will join hands with other research institutes and companies to provide real-time weather information and boost the economy of the country.
As per the announcement, WeatherUnion will be free to access through an API to all institutions and companies in the country.
"We believe that this data is too valuable to keep to ourselves or to monetise; therefore, as a Zomato Giveback, we are opening up access to this data to everyone for the public good. Multiple companies and public institutions should real-time weather data, to boost the productivity of our economy," Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal said while announcing launch of WeatherUnion, a new weather monitoring app.
He said that many Zomato employees have hosted weather stations at their homes and people who can provide space to install weather stations are welcome to join the initiative and contribute towards nation-building.
