Mandi, June 11: One among the 24 students who got swept away in the beas river would be remembered by his friends as a hero. M Kiran Kumar saved the lives of four of his friends before being swept away by the strong gush of water.

M Kiran Kumar's family is grieving his disappearance, but were proud of him too. Pratyusha, the one who survived the mishap told the TOI,"As soon as the water level started to rise, Kiran sensed trouble and started pushing us towards dry land. By the time we gathered ourselves and turned around to look for him, we realized he was struggling to get out of the water himself. But we still did not lose hope and were almost certain that he would manage to reach the shore safely."

His family and friends, however, are still praying and hoping that his swimming skills bears fruit and he is safe. A native of Khammam, Kiran's father said,"My son knew how to swim. I am sure he would have made it to a safe place."

Miracles do happen and his parents and friends are hoping for that.
