'Vegetable Knife For Bypass Surgery': Jagdeep Dhankhar Takes A Jibe At Opposition's No-Trust Motion
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday took a jibe at Opposition's no-confidence motion against him, stating: "one should not use a vegetable-cutting knife for bypass surgery," highlighting the inadequacy of the motion. The Rajya Sabha Chairperson's comments came after procedural irregularities led to the rejection of the motion.
Dhankhar expressed surprise at the notice for his removal, describing it as a "rusted" tool. He shared an anecdote from Chandra Shekhar, saying, "You'll be shocked. Chandra Shekhar ji once said, 'Never use a vegetable-cutting knife for bypass surgery'. The notice wasn't even a vegetable-cutting knife; it was rusted. There was haste."

Opposition's Motion Rejected
The Vice President further noted that he was astonished by the notice and surprised that others hadn't read it thoroughly. "When I read it, I was astonished. But what surprised me more was that none of you read it. If you had, you wouldn't have been able to sleep for days," he stated, according to PTI.
Dhankhar emphasized the importance of upholding constitutional positions with integrity and commitment to constitutionalism. He advised considering different viewpoints before speaking out. "Before you use your vocal cords… allow your ears to entertain the other point of view. Without these two elements, democracy can neither be nurtured nor blossom," he explained.
Congress Protest and Response
The no-confidence motion was filed by Congress in protest after they claimed that Dhankhar did not allow their MPs to respond to BJP attacks. However, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chair Harivansh rejected the notice, stating it aimed to create a narrative against Dhankhar.
In response to this situation, Dhankhar expressed personal disappointment over the opposition's actions and criticized Congress for allegedly running a campaign against him. "They have the Constitutional right to move a motion against me… but day-in and day-out, a campaign is going on against the Chairman," he commented.
