UPSC Student Commits Suicide In Delhi's Rajendra Nagar

A civil services aspirant ended his life in Delhi's Old Rajendra Nagar on Saturday due to severe pressure, according to reports. The deceased student was reportedly from Maharashtra, who left a note explaining her inability to handle the immense stress.

The saddening incident occurred days after three other UPSC aspirants died due to flooding in their coaching centre's basement.

Her note, now public, reveals the intense mental and emotional strain she endured. She described the relentless pressure of UPSC preparation and criticised the exploitative practices of private hostels and PG accommodations. Her despair over failing to clear the UPSC despite multiple attempts was evident.

Systemic Issues and Financial Strain

Anjali's friend Shweta shared that Anjali had made three attempts but couldn't pass the exam. "She gave 3 attempts, and give it her all every time, but could not clear the exam. The pressure was growing on her. Even the financial pressure was building as the rent in the area was increasing every few months," Shweta said.

Anjali's final message was a plea for understanding and a critique of systemic issues affecting UPSC aspirants. Her note read, "I am sorry mummy papa. I am really very fed up... there are just problems & issues only no peace only. I tried every possible way to get rid from this so called depression, but I can't overcome it (sic)."

Investigations and Broader Concerns

The Delhi Police have confirmed they are investigating the case. "We are looking into the details of the matter and examining the conditions that led to this tragic incident," a spokesperson said.

This death has raised broader concerns about the pressures faced by students in competitive environments. It follows closely on the heels of another tragedy where three students from the same area died after being trapped in a basement during heavy rains.

Officials have attributed these deaths to a lack of drainage systems, safety measures, and improper use of basements for commercial activities against norms.

The recent incidents underscore the need for better support systems for students facing extreme academic pressures and highlight systemic issues that need urgent attention.
