TTD Observes Ankurarpanam Ritual in Preparation for Annual Brahmotsavams 2023

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the Sri Venkateswara temple, conducted the Ankurarpanam ritual on Wednesday. This event precedes the annual Brahmotsavams, starting on Friday. Ankurarpanam involves sowing seeds at night using vessels called palikas to ensure auspiciousness. The ritual signifies a wish for a successful festival and seeks blessings from the Mula Virat deity, as stated by TTD.

TTD Marks Ankurarpanam for Brahmotsavams

The Brahmotsavams, scheduled from October 4 to 12 at Tirumala, include various ceremonies like Aalaya Suddhi, Dwajarohanam, and Vahana Seva. Aalaya Suddhi involves cleansing the temple before the festival begins. Dwajarohanam marks the start of Brahmotsavams with flag hoisting, while Vahana Seva features a procession of the deity through Tirumala's streets.

Brahmotsavams Preparations and Rituals

On Tuesday, the Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam ritual was performed with devotion at the Tirumala temple. TTD Executive Officer J Shyamala Rao highlighted its significance in preparation for Brahmotsavams. This ritual is conducted four times annually before major festivals like Telugu Ugadi and Vaikuntha Ekadasi. It involves cleansing the temple and deities with a special aromatic mixture called Parimalam.

On Wednesday, TTD organised a celestial procession as part of the Dwajarohanam ceremony. The Garuda flag hoisting on October 4 will officially commence the nine-day Brahmotsavams. Cultural troupes from various states participate in these festivities. Last year, they came from 12 states; this year, participants are expected from 21 states.

Logistics and Arrangements for Pilgrims

To accommodate pilgrims visiting Tirumala during Brahmotsavams, APSRTC will provide 400 buses making around 2,000 trips daily. On Garuda Vahana Seva day, there will be 3,000 trips. Additionally, helpdesks have increased from five to 12 to assist visitors. Staff at these helpdesks will communicate in multiple languages to aid devotees from different regions.

TTD prioritises providing annaprasadam (blessed food) during Brahmotsavams. Up to 11.5 lakh portions will be served to devotees. With accommodation for up to 40,000 people in Tirumala, devotees are advised to arrange their stay in Tirupati if needed.

Recently, Rao and temple priests invited Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to attend Brahmotsavams. Traditionally, the CM presents silken raiment to the deity on behalf of the state government. Endowments Minister Anam Ram Narayan Reddy urged officials to organise an impressive festival for pilgrims.

As preparations continue for Brahmotsavams, TTD ensures all arrangements are in place for a smooth celebration. The festival promises cultural richness and spiritual fulfilment for all attendees at this revered shrine in Tirumala.
