Agartala, Mar 2: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha hailed the signing of the tripartite agreement between the state government, the central government, and the Tipra Motha party as a historic step towards achieving lasting peace and prosperity in the state. The agreement, signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aims to amicably resolve various issues related to the indigenous people of Tripura, including history, land and political rights, economic development, identity, culture, and language.

Tripura Makes History: Tripartite Agreement Promises Transformation

A Promise of Resolution

Under the pact, all parties have committed to finding amicable solutions to the long-standing issues faced by the indigenous communities of Tripura. The agreement acknowledges the importance of respecting history, correcting past wrongs, and accepting the present reality to pave the way for a brighter future for the state.

Addressing Concerns and Building Trust

Chief Minister Saha expressed his belief that the agreement will address the concerns raised by the opposition party, Tipra Motha, which has been vocal about certain issues in recent months. He also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's focus on peace in the northeast region, highlighting the signing of eleven accords with different organizations in the region over the past few years.

Next Steps and Implementation

While the election bugle has been sounded, Chief Minister Saha assured that work on the agreement will commence despite the upcoming parliamentary elections. He emphasized that all stakeholders will be informed of any developments as they arise. Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debarma took to social media to express his satisfaction with the agreement, emphasizing the need to implement land rights, funding patterns, language script issues, political representation, and the preservation of historical and cultural pride.

Mixed Reactions and Skepticism

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) reacted strongly to the tripartite agreement, dismissing it as an attempt by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to divert public attention from real issues ahead of the parliamentary elections. The CPIM state secretary, Jitendra Chowdhury, criticized the agreement as a mere election-winning strategy, pointing out the lack of progress in a similar agreement made with the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) in 2018.

Despite these criticisms, the signing of the tripartite agreement marks a significant step in addressing the long-standing issues faced by the indigenous people of Tripura. As the state moves forward, it remains to be seen how effectively the agreement will be implemented and whether it will truly bring about the desired peace and prosperity for all.
