Train Accident In Tamil Nadu: Mysuru-Darbhanga Express Collides With Goods Train Near Gummidipoondi

In a distressing turn of events, the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bhagmati Express train met with an accident at Kavarapettai, located near Gummidipoondi in the Chennai Division of the Indian Railways around 8:30 PM on Friday. The train, which was traveling towards Andhra Pradesh, collided with a stationary goods train, leading to significant damage and disruption.

The accident occurred in the late evening, causing chaos among passengers and railway officials. Initial reports indicate that the train crew experienced a sudden, intense jolt on the track, causing the express train to divert onto a loop line and collide with a stationary goods train. Reports further revealed the passenger train was traveling at 109 km/h when the crew felt the heavy jerk, leading to the crash on the same track.

According to reports, two bogies caught fire.

Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported, though a few passengers sustained injuries.

Tiruvallur District Collector T Prabhushankar confirmed that rescue efforts are ongoing, aided by the proximity of the railway station, which allowed emergency teams to respond swiftly.

Ambulances and medical teams, including doctors, have also reached the site, and most passengers have already been rescued from the wreckage. Authorities are arranging alternate transportation to help passengers continue to their respective destinations.

According to initial reports, the crew experienced a heavy jolt when the train switched to a loop line, resulting in the collision. While several passengers sustained injuries, no fatalities have been reported so far.

Senior railway officials, including the General Manager of Southern Railway and the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Chennai Division, are en route to the accident site to oversee the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.

Tamil Nadu police officials informed PTI that additional rescue teams and ambulances were promptly dispatched to the location. Early visuals from the scene show a fire had erupted following the collision, further complicating rescue operations. Efforts are being made to control the situation and ensure the safety of all those affected.
