Times When Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Supported Anti-India Activities

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been surfacing in headlines for his recent remarks over pro-Khalistani activities in Canada. The Canadian PM in several occasions while addressing Kalistani activities in Canada said he would support 'freedom of expression'.

Trudeau on Tuesday referred Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar as the Canadian citizen and accused India for his death during his speech at the House of Commons in Ottawa.

Trudeau while speaking at the House of Commons in Ottawa said, "Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the Government of India and the killing of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijjar."

Reportedly, Nijjar who was killed in a targeted shooting earlier this year outside a gurdwara in Surrey, was the most wanted person on the list of Indian government

Trudeau was again in limelight for not making any remarks over anti-India referendum which was organised at the Guru Nanak Singh Gurudwara in Surrey by the Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) where a Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun hinted at 'balkanising' India.

Trudeau in his speech about the Khalistani protests in Canada said he defends freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, and freedom of peaceful protest just after his discussion with PM Modi over the issue.

Trudeau in July was seen using the phrase 'freedom of expression' as a reaction to the parade organised by Khalistani supporters glorifying the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Brampton in June.

The Canadian Prime Minister was quoted as saying, "We have an extremely diverse country and freedom of expression is something that we have, but we will always make sure that we are pushing back against violence and extremism in all its forms. Canada has always taken extremely seriously violence and threats of violence."

Trudeau's remarks came to light after Khalistani threat posters in the country were featuring names of Indian diplomats. The pamphlets included names of Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma, Consul General Vancouver Manish, Consul General Toronto Apoorva Srivastava, claiming that India was responsible for the killing of Hardeep Nijjar.

However, the Indian government then asked the Canadian government not to support Khalistani groups.

Meanwhile, in 2018, a convicted former Khalistani terrorist Jaspal Atwal, was invited to a dinner organised at the Canadian High Commission in Delhi during Trudeau's official visit to India. However, Trudeau blamed the Canadian Parliament for inviting Atwal.
