IMD Forecasts Significant Temperature Drop in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada Regions
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a further drop in temperatures across central Maharashtra and Marathwada. While these regions brace for colder weather, areas like Mumbai, Konkan, Vidarbha, and North and South Maharashtra are not expected to experience similar conditions. An IMD official highlighted that temperatures in Madhya Maharashtra have been consistently below normal recently.

In Madhya Maharashtra, Ahilyanagar reported a minimum temperature of 5.5°C, which is significantly lower than the usual by 5.6°C. Pune city also experienced a dip, with temperatures falling to 7.8°C, 4.3°C below the average level. Meanwhile, Mumbai's Colaba observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 33.3°C, slightly above normal by 1.3°C, while the minimum was 19.8°C, 1.3°C below the usual.
Temperature Variations in Mumbai
At Santacruz observatory in Mumbai, the maximum temperature reached 35.4°C, exceeding the norm by 3.1°C. However, the minimum temperature dropped to 14°C, which is 4.5°C below average. This indicates a pattern where maximum temperatures are higher than usual while minimums are lower.
The IMD predicts sunny weather for Mumbai and its suburbs over the next day. Although some haze is expected in the morning hours, clear skies are anticipated during the afternoon and evening periods.
The ongoing cold spell in central Maharashtra and Marathwada contrasts with the warmer daytime temperatures observed in Mumbai. This highlights the diverse climatic conditions across different regions of Maharashtra during this period.
