Telangana Police Catches Ambulance Thief After Following Him For 100 Kms

A thief was apprehended by Telangana Police after a dramatic chase on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway. The incident unfolded when the thief hijacked a 108 ambulance in Hayatnagar, located on Hyderabad's outskirts, and used it as a getaway vehicle.

The police were alerted by the ambulance driver about the theft. This led to an intense pursuit that spanned over 100 kilometres. Officers placed lorries as blockades near Suryapet to catch the thief. Despite these efforts, the thief accelerated the siren-blaring ambulance towards Vijayawada, weaving through traffic and causing chaos on the highway.

High-Speed Chase and Injuries

During the chase, an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police named Jana Reddy attempted to stop the vehicle at Chityala but was hit by the ambulance. He sustained critical injuries and was immediately taken to a private hospital in Hyderabad for treatment.

Even after injuring the officer, the thief continued driving recklessly. The stolen ambulance eventually rammed into a gate at Korlapahad toll gate in Kethepalli Mandal. The police at Tekumatla in Suryapet Mandal had been informed over the phone and set up a blockade using lorries.

Thief's Capture and Criminal Background

Upon spotting the blockade, the thief tried to swerve off but lost control, causing the vehicle to crash into bushes. Police officers quickly apprehended him at this point. A preliminary investigation revealed that he had a history of criminal activities involving theft under various police jurisdictions.

The authorities have taken him into custody for questioning to determine his motive behind this audacious act. An investigation is also underway regarding previous cases registered against him.
