Telangana Government Revokes Ticket Price Increase for Ram Charan's Game Changer Following High Court Ruling

The Telangana government has retracted its decision to allow increased ticket prices for the film "Game Changer" starring Ram Charan. This move aligns with the High Court's directive, which also prohibits early morning shows unless public interest, health, and safety are considered. The withdrawal of permission for higher ticket rates will take effect from January 16, according to an official statement released on Saturday night.

Telangana Withdraws Ticket Price Hike for Game Changer

Previously, on January 3, the state government had approved a request from the film's producers to screen six shows on January 10. This included an additional show at 4 am with a surcharge of Rs 150 for multiplexes and Rs 100 for single-screen theatres. From January 11 to 19, five shows were permitted daily with an extra charge of Rs 100 for multiplexes and Rs 50 for single theatres.

High Court's Intervention

The High Court intervened on January 10, issuing interim directions to reassess the decision to increase ticket prices by Rs 150 for multiplexes and Rs 100 for single theatres. The court ordered a review within 24 hours of receiving its order and prohibited early morning screenings. The government had initially allowed these changes with the condition that advertisements about the dangers of narcotics, drugs, and cybercrime be shown.

Opposition BRS MLA T Harish Rao criticised the Congress government on January 10 for permitting the ticket price hike. He pointed out that Cinematography Minister K Venkata Reddy had opposed such increases in the Legislative Assembly. This criticism followed a tragic incident on December 4, 2024, when a woman died in a stampede at the premiere of Allu Arjun's film "Pushpa-2."

The government's decision reflects its commitment to ensuring public safety and addressing concerns raised by various stakeholders. By retracting the earlier orders, it aims to balance entertainment interests with public welfare considerations.
