Telangana: 200 kg ganja seized from trains, 8 arrested
The arrested accused procured the ganja from Odisha, Visakhapatnam and supplied it in Maharashtra.
Hyderabad, Sep 14: Around 200 kg cannabis (ganja) worth Rs 30 lakh was seized from eight persons in three separate cases by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Telangana.
The eight persons were nabbed on Wednesday from separate passenger trains for allegedly indulging in the ganja trade.
The raids and checking in trains and at platforms is part of a drive against illegal transport and possession of drugs and other psychotropic substances, said DGP (Telangana Railways and Road Safety) T Krishna Prasad.
The arrested accused procured the ganja from Odisha, Visakhapatnam and supplied it in Maharashtra. Three cases were registered under relevant sections of NDPS by the Government Railway Police, Secunderabad. Further probe is on.
On Tuesday, forty-three kilograms of cannabis was seized and two persons were arrested by the West Bengal CID from Nadia district's Chakdah region in the state. Acting on a tip-off, an anti-terrorism squad team of the state CID conducted a raid in the early hours of today on NH-34 near Chakdah Chowrastha More, and seized the drug from a vehicle and arrested the two, a senior officer of the agency said.
