Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Rhea Chakraborty, Dismissing CBI's Plea In Sushant Singh Rajput case
The Supreme Court recently handed a significant verdict in favor of actress Rhea Chakraborty, who has been embroiled in the controversy surrounding the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. The apex court rejected a plea by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the state of Maharashtra, and the Bureau of Immigration. This plea contested the Bombay High Court's decision to annul the CBI's lookout notice against Chakraborty in the ongoing case.
The justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan, who presided over the bench, criticized the petition as "frivolous" and issued a stern warning to the CBI, Bureau of Immigration, and the state of Maharashtra. They expressed concern over the petition being filed solely because Chakraborty is a high-profile individual. They remarked, "We are warning you. You are filing such a frivolous petition only because one of the accused is a high-profile person. It will be dismissed with exemplary cost. Both persons have deep roots in society."

Following Sushant Singh Rajput's family filing an FIR, the CBI had issued lookout circulars in 2020 against Chakraborty and her family members. Nonetheless, these were canceled by the Bombay High Court, which pointed out the lack of substantial reasons for their issuance, noting that Chakraborty and her family had been cooperative with the investigation. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) also investigated them in connection with an alleged money laundering case. Rajput's death by suicide on June 14, 2020, led to numerous speculations and controversies.
Chakraborty recently shared her ordeal during her time in jail on Karishma Mehta's podcast. She divulged that each day felt like a year, describing how she sank into "deep depression and darkness" overwhelmed by negative thoughts. This revelation gives insight into her emotional state during the legal battles and public scrutiny.
The Supreme Court's dismissal of the petition not only signifies a legal victory for Chakraborty but also highlights the judiciary's stance against what it perceives as baseless legal challenges influenced by the profile of the individuals involved. This case has been closely watched by both the public and media, revealing the complexities and challenges of navigating the legal system, especially for those under the public eye.
