Sudha Murty's Fear Over Same Spoon Used For Veg, Non-Veg Took Twitter by Storm

Author and philanthropist Sudha Murty recently trended on Twitter after an interview where she spoke about her food preferences. Murty, who is a pure vegetarian, said that she is concerned about the possibility of the same spoon being used for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. As a result, she either only eats at vegetarian restaurants or carries her own food with her when she travels.

During the YouTube interview titled 'Khaane Mein Kya Hai,' Sudha Murty revealed that she is a strict vegetarian and even avoids eggs and garlic. To ensure her dietary preferences are respected, she either seeks out vegetarian restaurants or carries her own food when going out.

Murty also said that she is a foodie but not a good cook. She admitted that her husband, Narayana Murthy, has maintained his weight all these years because she is not a very good cook. However, she does make great tea and poha.

Murty also said that she carries a bag full of eatables when she goes abroad. She makes 25-30 chapatis and takes roasted suji so that it is ready to eat when added hot water. She also carries a cooker, a habit she picked up from her grandmother.

During a conversation with actor and food critic Kunal Vijjayakar, Sudha Murty shared that carrying her food with her is a habit she inherited from her grandmother. Reflecting on her past, she admitted to teasing her grandmother for always carrying a bag full of food. However, she now finds herself doing the exact same thing. With a hint of humor, she stated, "I used to make fun of my grandmother when she took a bag like that. Now, I do the same. I carry my own food."

Twitter users react to Murty's comments

Murty's comments about her food preferences sparked a reaction on Twitter. Some users were supportive of her decision to carry her own food, while others were more critical.

One user tweeted, "I can understand Murty's concerns about cross-contamination. I'm a vegetarian too, and I would be worried about eating food that had been prepared with the same utensils as non-vegetarian food."

Another user tweeted, "I think Murty is being a bit overcautious. It's unlikely that any restaurant would use the same spoon for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food."

Murty was recently honored with the Padma Bhushan for her contribution to social work. Her daughter, Akshata Murty, who is the UK's first lady, was present at the awards ceremony.
