New Delhi, June 12: The wife of former Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti has not only accused him of domestic violence, but shockingly, she has also accused Bharti of unleashing dogs on her while she was pregnant.

According to an Indiatoday report, "She had filed a 26-page complaint with the DCW in which she alleged that Bharti had forced her to go for abortion when she became pregnant for the third time and that she once tried to slit her wrist due to unrelenting torture."

Bharti, however, rubbished all the charges against him.

"Me and my children are subject to harassment and torture - mental, physical and oral - by my husband Somnath Bharti. There is a persistent threat from my husband and his supporters," she had said in her complaint to the DCW.

Wife of former Delhi Law Minister and AAP MLA Somnath Bharti, Lipika on Thursday filed a police complaint against him accusing him of "domestic violence" and "torture".

"The complaint of Lipika Mitra, wife of Somnath Bharti, was filed at the office of the DCP of South West district in Dwarka, it has been transferred to the Crime Against Women Cell for further investigation and report," a senior police officer said.

The couple has two children and Lipika lives separately in Dwarka along with the kids.

Bharti was on Thursday slapped with notices by DCW after Lipika levelled charges of domestic violence, mental torture, dowry and forgery against him.

Somnath Bharti rejects wife's allegations

A lawyer by profession, Bharti who was Law Minister during AAP's first stint of 49-day government, denied the allegations calling them "totally baseless". "... My wife says I should quit politics...I am deeply pained. I love my wife and my little children," Bharti, who is in Kerala, said.

"All these started after I missed my son's birthday. I missed my son's birthday as there were two days of the Delhi Assembly sessions. I missed it and I forgot it and that led to all these," Bharti added.

"She had threatened me that she will spoil my political life and probably, this is the way she chose fulfil that. With folded hands, I request her that she should not lie and she should not spread lies in public domain.

"This will not only hurt her in time to come, but all of us will suffer. Our children will grow tomorrow and they would question," he said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police has provided security to Somnath Bharti's wife, Lipika Mitra, following her apprehensions about her safety.
