Rs 52 Crore Worth Goods Seized In Maharashtra In 24 Hours: EC

In a matter of 24 hours in poll-bound Maharashtra, the law enforcement agencies have confiscated goods worth Rs 52 crore.

After the Election Commission announced the dates of polls, 19 law enforcement agencies have seized goods worth Rs 90.74 crore in Maharashtra. The model code of conduct came into effect on October 15.

Police, Income Tax, Revenue Intelligence, Narcotics Control Bureau, Customs and Excise departments along with other departments have seized in the districts of Mumbai suburban, Nagpur and Ratnagiri, the poll agency said in a statement. It also revealed that 1,144 complaints of MCC violations have been registered through the Election Commission's cVIGIL app.

However, the EC has taken action against 99 per cent of violations, the statement stated.

The polling for 288 seats in Maharashtra will be held in a single phase on November 20 and counting is on November 23.

The EC has launched the cVIGIL mobile app to help citizens flag election code violations. Maharashtra polls will be held on November 20 and votes will be counted on November 23.

The ruling Mahayuti alliance includes Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, BJP and Ajit Pawar's NCP. Whereas the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi has Congress, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar's NCP.
