Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi Offers Prayers, Performs Seva at Golden Temple

Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi visited the revered Golden Temple in Amritsar where he not only offered prayers but also performed seva by serving water to devotees and cleaning their bowls. His day was filled with spiritual activities including listening to Shabad Kirtan and participating in the traditional ritual of palki seva.

On October 2, in the sacred city of Amritsar, Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader and former chief of the party, demonstrated his devotion and humility by offering prayers at the Golden Temple. Adorned with a blue scarf on his head as per Sikh custom, Gandhi paid obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum of this revered temple.

Rahul Gandhi Seva Golden Temple

Gandhi's visit to the temple was not merely symbolic; he also partook in seva or voluntary service. This act is deeply ingrained in Sikhism as it encourages selfless service to others. In addition to offering prayers at the holy shrine, Gandhi visited Akal Takht - the highest temporal seat for Sikhs worldwide.

Rahul Gandhi's Seva

At Akal Takht too, Rahul Gandhi performed seva by cleaning water bowls used by devotees. His acts of service did not stop there; after spending some time within these spiritual environs, he returned later that evening around 8 pm to perform additional seva at Chhabeel - an integral part of Sikh tradition where sweetened water is served to passersby regardless of their religion or caste.

Interaction with Devotees

The Congress leader’s humble acts were well received by those present. Several devotees were seen capturing these moments on their mobile phones while one woman devotee even had an opportunity to shake hands with him. After completing his acts of service, Gandhi returned once again to listen to Shabad Kirtan – religious hymns sung in praise of God.

Palki Seva Ritual

In adherence with religious customs and practices followed here, Rahul Gandhi participated in palki seva - a traditional ritual marking closure for the day where Guru Granth Sahib (the holy scripture of Sikhs) is taken to the Akal Takht for Sukhasan. This was confirmed by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) IT wing incharge, Jaskarn Singh.

Conclusion

Outside the sanctum sanctorum, Gandhi was also seen performing seva by cleaning steel grilles. He spent a total of around 15 minutes in this act of service, demonstrating his respect and reverence towards Sikhism. His visit and voluntary services at the Golden Temple not only reflect his personal faith but also echo the values of humility, selfless service and equality that are central to Indian culture and traditions.

In conclusion, Rahul Gandhi's visit to Amritsar's Golden Temple serves as an example of how political leaders can demonstrate their commitment to promoting unity and harmony among diverse religious communities in India. By participating actively in religious rituals and customs, they can foster a sense of shared cultural heritage while promoting mutual respect amongst different faiths.
