Priyanka Gandhi, KC Venugopal Meet Amit Shah, Seek Govt Help For Landslide-Affected Wayanad
A group led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress MP from Wayanad, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday. They sought central assistance for her constituency's people. Accompanied by Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, Vadra emphasised the urgent need to support affected families and restore vital infrastructure in the area.
"We informed the Home Minister about the situation there (in Wayanad), and told him how people are suffering there. While the natural disaster is in a focused area, its effect is massive. People are not left with any support system, so if the central government doesn't act in such a situation, what else can people hope for," Vadra said after meeting the Home Minister.

Appeal for Humanitarian Support
The Congress leader urged that politics be set aside to provide humanitarian aid. She noted that PM Modi had visited the victims, who hoped for his help but received none. "We have given representations to the PM as well as Home Minister," she added.
The disaster struck on July 30, affecting three villages: Punchirimattam, Chooralmala, and Mundakkai, along with parts of Attamala in Wayanad. According to government reports, 231 lives were lost, and 47 individuals remain missing due to this calamity.
Impact of Disaster
Vadra highlighted that those affected have lost everything, including family members. She stressed that if the Centre fails to respond, it sends a negative message nationwide and especially to the victims.
She emphasised that the devastation was complete in that area. The lack of central intervention would reflect poorly on national governance and compassion towards those suffering.
The delegation's visit aimed to draw attention to the dire circumstances faced by Wayanad's residents. They hope for swift action from central authorities to alleviate their plight.
