Police recover Glock pistol, 14 bullets from Maharashtra man in Tirupati

Another person carrying narcotics and alcohol was also detained

The Tirupati police detained a man carrying a Glock pistol and 14 live bullets on Wednesday. The man identified as a resident of Pune was stopped by the police for routine check up at the Alipiri check post in Tirupati.

Vigilance department officials said that the person, who identified himself as Vinay Malaya from Pune, was travelling in an SUV bearing a Maharashtra registration number. "We found the pistol hidden in the trunk of the car very secretively. He has not produced a license for the pistol. We found a Glock pistol along with 14 bullets. We are in the process of gathering more details," said Ravikrishna TTD Vigilance officer.

Alert has been sounded for Tirumala after the police received information that some more devotees have carried banned substances. Vinay was accompanied by three women in the car. The police are in the process of verifying their identity and the intent behind carrying the pistol and live rounds.

The team detained another person for carrying narcotics and alcohol. The person has been detained while all substances in his possession have been seized. While routine checks are being conducted at the Alipiri check post, police in Tirumala have been asked to carry out specific searches to ascertain if any devotee is carrying banned substances.
