PM Modi To Send Sacred Chadar To Ajmer Sharif Dargah Amid Shiva Temple Row; Hindu Organizations Protest
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will send a chadar to the Ajmer Dargah Sharif on January 4, marking the annual Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will present this offering on behalf of the Prime Minister. This tradition has been maintained by PM Modi for a decade, symbolising peace and unity.
The ceremony coincides with a recent controversy involving an Ajmer court's decision to consider a plea for surveying the Dargah premises. A Hindu petitioner claimed that a Shiva temple exists within the Dargah's boundaries, sparking debate. Despite this, the chadar offering continues as planned.

Rijiju's Visit and New Initiatives
Kiren Rijiju is scheduled to arrive at Jaipur airport at 7:15 am before travelling to Ajmer by road. The chadar offering ceremony will occur at 11 am at the Dargah Sharif. During his visit, Rijiju will also launch a new web portal and mobile app for devotees, enhancing their experience.
The web portal provides comprehensive information about Khwaja Saheb's life and teachings. It includes details on facilities like 'langar' and 'deg' services and offers online guesthouse bookings. A live darshan feature allows global devotees to watch events at the Dargah in real-time.
Technological Advancements for Devotees
The 'Garib Nawaz' app complements the portal by delivering user-friendly services to devotees. Additionally, Rijiju will release the Urs Manual, which outlines historical context, traditions, and logistical arrangements for the event. This manual aims to streamline coordination among various stakeholders involved in organising the Urs.
Haji Syed Salman Chishty, Chairman of Sufi Foundation and Gaddi Nashin of Ajmer Dargah, highlighted that PM Modi has been sending chadars since 2015. He stated that this practice began in 1947 and continues with prayers for national harmony and brotherhood.
Significance of Jannati Darwaza
Dargah cleric Syed Munnawar Chishti mentioned that alongside the Urs commencement, the Jannati Darwaza has been opened. This sacred gate opens only four times annually and remains accessible for six days during this period. Pilgrims believe passing through it grants them a place in heaven.
The 813th Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti started in Ajmer with moon sighting ceremonies on Wednesday. Haji Syed Salman Chishty extended congratulations to attendees while emphasising PM Modi's consistent participation through chadar offerings over ten years.
This year's Urs celebration is expected to draw numerous pilgrims eager to partake in rituals and pass through the Jannati Darwaza.
