PM Modi To Inaugurate New Expressways To Improve Delhi-NCR Connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate two significant expressways on Sunday, enhancing connectivity to Indira Gandhi International Airport. These projects aim to cut down travel time and alleviate traffic congestion in the Delhi-NCR region. The Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway are expected to significantly improve commuting experiences.

The UER-II, a 76-kilometre corridor, is being hailed as Delhi's new "outer ring road." It stretches from Alipur to Mahipalpur near the airport, linking areas such as Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh, and Dwarka. This highway was constructed at an approximate cost of Rs 7,716 crore and connects major routes like Delhi-Chandigarh and Delhi-Rohtak.

Enhanced Connectivity with New Expressways

The newly opened stretches promise to reduce travel time from Noida to IGI Airport to just 20 minutes. Commuters from western Delhi and NCR suburbs will benefit from a smoother ride, easing congestion on the city's busy Ring Road. The opening also facilitates better traffic flow toward Gurugram and Jaipur.

Alongside UER-II, PM Modi will unveil the 29-kilometre Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway. This stretch runs from Kherki Daula toll plaza to Shiv Murti at Mahipalpur. The Gurugram section of this expressway was inaugurated in March 2024. Together, these corridors are expected to enhance traffic movement significantly.

Key Features of UER-II

According to the National Highways Authority of India, UER-II was planned under the Delhi Master Plan 2021. It spans 54 kilometres in Delhi and approximately 21 kilometres in Haryana. The expressway features eight lanes, service roads, four multi-level interchanges, and several underpasses.

The Rs 9,000 crore Dwarka Expressway was constructed in four packages while UER-II was completed in five phases. Officials have stated that these access-controlled expressways will allow uninterrupted travel and help reduce the load on Delhi's arterial roads.

Inauguration Event Details

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and other BJP leaders are expected to attend the inauguration event. Their presence underscores the importance of these infrastructure projects for regional connectivity.

These developments mark a significant step towards improving transportation infrastructure in the region. By reducing travel times and easing congestion, these expressways are set to enhance daily commutes for many residents in Delhi-NCR.
