Parampal Kaur's BJP Induction Amid Unclear Resignation Status, Says Punjab CM
Recently, a significant political shift occurred as Parampal Kaur Sidhu, the daughter-in-law of Akali Dal leader Sikandar Singh Maluka, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi. This move came shortly after she tendered her resignation as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. The event was marked by the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and BJP's National General Secretary Vinod Tawde. However, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has stated that the Punjab government has yet to accept her resignation.

Parampal Kaur Sidhu, who was serving as the Managing Director of the Punjab State Industrial Corporation, submitted her resignation recently, amidst rumors of her impending entry into politics. Despite her resignation being forwarded to the Chief Minister by the Chief Secretary for approval, CM Mann highlighted a procedural oversight in Sidhu's haste to transition from civil service to politics.
On the other hand, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced in Delhi that Sidhu's resignation had been accepted on Wednesday. This statement was corroborated by sources indicating that the Centre's Department of Personnel and Training had indeed accepted her resignation. According to standard procedures, a resigning officer's state cadre is responsible for communicating any dues or vigilance status to the central government before acceptance of resignation.
Chief Minister Mann expressed concern over Sidhu's eagerness to enter politics without her resignation being formally accepted. He emphasized that there are specific rules and regulations governing the resignation process of an officer, which must be adhered to diligently. Mann also mentioned that the government is investigating the motives behind Sidhu's resignation and did not rule out taking action if her reasons are found to be inappropriate.
Parampal Kaur Sidhu, a 2011-batch IAS officer, was speculated to join BJP ahead of her retirement in October this year. There is speculation that she may contest from the Bathinda Lok Sabha seat, currently held by Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Sidhu's political move is significant as she is closely related to Sikandar Singh Maluka, a senior Akali Dal leader and former minister who is actively involved in preparing for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls through the SAD's manifesto committee.
This development has stirred discussions in political circles, highlighting the intricate relationship between civil service and politics. As both state and central authorities clarify their positions on procedural matters, the focus remains on how this transition will impact Punjab's political landscape and Sidhu's future political career.
