Rajnath Singh Reports Significant Decrease in Terror Attacks in Jammu and Kashmir
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that Jammu and Kashmir have seen a significant drop in terrorist incidents compared to the past. Speaking to reporters, Singh emphasised that security forces remain alert in the region, aiming to eliminate terrorism entirely. He noted that the Union Territory is experiencing swift development.

Singh discussed India's relationship with China, highlighting India's desire for friendly ties with its neighbours. He mentioned that discussions between India and China have been ongoing for over a year. According to Singh, all issues have been resolved at the Army level, and border patrolling continues.
Focus on Defence Capabilities
The Defence Minister visited the Field Gun Factory to assess indigenous defence capabilities. He inspected a heat-treatment plant and gun assembly, observing the production of barrel-and-breach assemblies for artillery guns and tanks like the T-72, Dhanush, and Sarang. Singh spent over 30 minutes at the facility.
During his visit, Singh attended the 65th Foundation Day of the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K) as the chief guest. He shared his vision for a self-reliant and innovative India at this prestigious engineering institute.
Technological Advancements and Self-Reliance
"In today's era of technology-driven transformation, India is on the verge of groundbreaking innovation, with institutions like IIT-K driving us forward," Singh stated. He urged young people to lead India's journey towards technological self-reliance, especially in critical sectors like defence.
Singh highlighted IIT-K's role in nurturing new ideas from conception to production. "Together, academia, industry, and government must ensure that the country secures its place among world leaders in high-end technology," he said.
Reducing Import Dependency
The Defence Minister stressed the importance of technology in modern defence, citing innovations like drones and cyber warfare as reshaping combat. To achieve self-reliance (aatmanirbharta), India must reduce import dependency and prioritise domestic innovations.
Singh expressed confidence in continued progress, predicting defence exports will reach Rs 50,000 crore by 2029-30. "India has dreamed of becoming a developed nation by 2047 on the strength of our youngsters," he said. "We must put all our power into realising that dream."
He concluded with a proverb: "If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together." Singh encouraged collective efforts to achieve targets and reach greater heights.
