Now Tipu issue threatens to trouble Tamil Nadu
New Delhi, Nov 23: Karnataka witnesses some unfortunate riots after the state government decided to celebrate Tipu Sultan Jayanthi.
However, Tamil Nadu has taken a cue and acting on an intelligence bureau report refused permission to an oraganisation that sought to celebrate Tipu Sultan's birthday.

The Tamil Nadu government refused permission to the Tamizhaga Makkal Jananayaga Katchi in Vellore to celebrate Tipu Sultan's birthday.

The state has made it clear that it wants no violence in the state and with IB reports suggesting trouble if the birthday celebrations were allowed, the government decided to put its foot down.
The matter has even reached the Madras High Court with the organization challenging the decision of the state. The organization states that they had earlier demanded that a memorial for Hyder Ali be built and the government had agreed for the same.
Now denying permission to celebrate Tipu's birthday comes as a surprise. However the government has made it clear the only reason why permission is being denied is because it could lead to law and order problems.
There have been pro and anti arguments in the case of Tipu Sultan. Some quote the example of the Sringeri Mutt and say that it was Tipu who helped rebuild it after the Marathas had destroyed it.
However, Hindu organization are opposed to celebrating Tipu's birthday and one may recall that the Hindu Munnani had warned super star Rajinikanth against playing the character of Tipu.
