Recently the Jamaat-ud-Dawa released a video in which a private army of Hafiz Saeed was shown. It was a group of 100 who were handpicked from the Lashkar-e-Tayiba and the passing ceremony captured on video was personally overseen by Saeed himself.
This security team travels with Saeed who has made his political ambitions clear. Despite opposition from the government he opened the party office for his political outfit, Milli Muslim League.
Is this the first time that a group in Pakistan is raising a private army. Incidentally, this is not the first and all terror groups in Pakistan have been given the license to run their private army.
Here are the terror groups with private armies:
- Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jamaat-ud-Dawa:
- Hizbul Mujahideen:
- Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami:
- Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan
- Al Qaeda
- Haqqani Network
- Al Rashid Trust
- Ummah Tamir-e-Nau
- Al Akhtar Trust
