Bengal Horror: CCTV Shows Victim With Accused, Autopsy Points To Rape; Mamata Banerjee Joins Candle March

The Baruipur rape case in West Bengal have shook the nation and has sparked outrage across the state after the body of an 11 year old girl was raped, killed and later found in a pond.

It was on Saturday when the girl went missing as she went to buy a gift for her friend's birthday but sadly she was found dead in a pond. However fresh CCTV video has been recovered and the investigation relies on the video and the forensic evidence and witness statements as they continue to probe the brutal crime.

The tragic incident has triggered violent protests, with residents demanding the strictest punishment for those responsible. Police have arrested multiple suspects, while a SIT and the West Bengal Special task force are into the investigation.

CCTV Captures Girl With Arrested Accused

As the investigation is on, fresh CCTV video has been released where the footage recorded on July 4 at around 4:44 pm in the Surjyapur Haat area, shows the young girl walking along a road with a man identified by police as Prabhas Mondal, one of the arrested accused.

The video shows that the girl and the man are walking close to each other near the shops and the road railing before she disappears. Yes the footage does not capture the crime, investigators believe that this can help in framing a timeline of the incident and confirms that the man was one of the accused.

Body Recovered A Day Later

A timeline:

• The girl went missing on Saturday after she went to buy a gift for her friend's birthday and since then she did not return.
• It was Sunday, when the 11 year old girl's body was recovered from the pond in the Surjyapur Haat area. Investigators suspect that the body had been placed inside a sack before being dumped in the water.

The discovery shocked local residents and quickly led to protests demanding immediate action against those involved.

Multiple Arrests Made

Police have arrested several suspects in connection with the case.
Prabhas Mondal was among the first to be taken into custody. Later, another key accused, Anand (Ananda) Sardar, was arrested from the Baruipur area. Authorities have confirmed that at least three people have been arrested so far.

Senior police officials, along with the SIT and the West Bengal STF, are supervising the investigation to ensure all those involved are identified and brought to justice.

Autopsy Points To Sexual Assault And Murder

In the Preliminary report, it reveals shocking details. The report claims that the 11 year old was sexually assaulted before her death. The report also shows multiple bite marks while the doctor believes that she was strangled.

The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with other serious criminal charges. Police said further forensic examination is continuing and additional evidence is being collected.

Amid the chaos, TMC leader and former CM Mamata Banerjee joins the candle march near her residence in Kalighat to protest against the alleged rape and murder of the minor in Baruipur. Earlier in the day, a delegation from the Kalighat Trinamool Congress met the victim's family members.

Posting on X, TMC quoted that the party chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee led a protest march on Monday, demanding justice for the alleged rape and murder of a minor in Baruipur. The party accused the BJP-led state administration and police of attempting to stop what it described as a peaceful demonstration, calling the move a violation of democratic rights. TMC also claimed that the alleged action reflected the "insecurities" of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Reaffirming its stand, the party said it would continue its campaign under Banerjee's leadership to seek justice for the victim and advocate for the safety, dignity and rights of women in West Bengal.

Public Anger Leads To Violent Protests

After this heinous act, the locals led a widespread protest, blocked roads, railway tracks and burnt tyres. They demanded strict action against the criminals. During the unrest, a 26-year-old man suspected by locals of being involved in the crime was allegedly beaten to death by a mob.

Following the violence, additional police personnel and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) were deployed to restore law and order. Authorities have appealed to people to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed through legal channels.

Amid this the new Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari spoke with the victim's family and assured them that the investigation is being monitored by senior officers.
