'Not In Our Culture': Amethi MP KL Sharma Backs Rahul Gandhi's Remark On Smriti Irani
On Friday, Rahul Gandhi said that no politician, including Smriti Irani, should be subjected to derogatory language, regardless of their electoral outcomes.
Kishori Lal Sharma, who reclaimed the Amethi Lok Sabha seat for Congress from Irani, echoed Gandhi's sentiment on Saturday.

Sharma remarked, "Rahul Gandhi is right. He stays within his limits. I relate to his statement. Victories and defeats are a part of life. We must not use such language against someone," while speaking to news agency ANI.
Support for Smriti Irani
Gandhi's comments came a day after he posted on X (formerly Twitter) in support of Irani. She had won the Amethi seat for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against Gandhi in the 2019 general elections, five years after losing to him.
"Winning and losing happen in life. I urge everyone to refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty towards Smt. Smriti Irani or any leader for that matter. Humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness, not strength," wrote Gandhi on the microblogging platform.
Reactions from Congress Supporters
Irani faced repeated social media attacks from Congress supporters following her victory. According to sources within the Congress, these attacks intensified after her defeat.
In his first Lok Sabha election in 2004, Gandhi won the Amethi seat and secured two more terms from the constituency. He now represents Rae Bareli in the Lok Sabha, succeeding his mother Sonia Gandhi.
The call for respectful discourse by both Gandhi and Sharma highlights a need for civility in political debates. Their stance underscores that electoral wins and losses should not lead to personal attacks or derogatory remarks against any politician.
