New Karnataka Lokayukta: Govt to speak with Justice Vikramjit Sen

New Delhi, Dec 22: The Karnataka Government may approach Justice Vikramjit Sen to take over as the next Lokayukta of the state. The post of Lokayukta is lying vacant today following the resignation of Justice Bhaskar Rao owing to corruption charges levelled against his son Ashwin Rao.

While the government of Karnataka also has the name of Justice S R Nayak in mind, it appears that the name of Justice Sen is also being considered strongly. He has the qualifications to become a Lokayukta as he has been a chief justice of the Karnataka High Court. Justice Sen currently is a judge in the Supreme Court and is due to retire on December 30th 2015.

Sources in the Karnataka Law Department informed OneIndia that nothing has been finalised as yet, but there is a general view that Justice Sen would be a good candidate for Lokayukta. We will need to speak to him first before coming to any conclusion, the officer said. The officer also added that they would speak to him only after December 30th 2015 after his retirement.

Earlier this month, the government of Karnataka had also considered the name of Justice S R Nayak to take over as the Lokayukta. Justice Nayak who has been a chief justice of a high court has also served in the Karnataka high court. He has also been the chairperson of the Karnataka state human rights commission and the Karnataka law commission.
