Netizens Target Sania Mirza As Women With Pakistan Connection Asked To Leave India Over Pahalgam Attack
Several videos of women married to Pakistani nationals expressing their unhappiness over the Indian government's decision to leave the country have surfaced online. Amid the heart-wrenching clips, a section of netizens have targeted Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza who was earlier married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.
Responding to a video of an Indian Muslim woman criticising the government's decision for sudden cancellation, a user said: "Still don't understand why these women marry Pakistani Muslim men. Aren't there enough decent Muslim men in India? Even Sania Mirza did the same thing and got what she deserved."

Another user commented: "Sania Mirza got saved. It's a wonder how many Indian muslim girls are married in Pak! #Pakistan." The third user said: "Sania Mirza have you left ...you and your Pakistani kid not allowed in India .. Chalo bhago,"
The fourth user added: "The que at Attari for going to Pakistan very high,we know only Sania Mirza who married a pakistani but Hundreds of Muslims from various states getting married their daughter in Pakistan and retaining Indian passport,@narendramodi @AmitShahOffice."
How It All Started?
The social media attack against Sania Mirza started after videos of Muslim women speaking about the separation of their family members over the visa cancellation. Many women are stranded in Attar border as the authorities have denied permission to enter the country.
"I am an Indian citizen who got married in Pakistan 10 years ago. Both of my children were born in India, but they hold Pakistani passports. Due to current restrictions, only individuals holding a green passport are being allowed to cross the border. As someone with an Indian passport, I am unable to join my children. I humbly request the government to kindly consider my situation and grant me permission to cross the border," Indian Express quoted a woman at Attari-Wagah border as saying.
Sadvi Alvi, an Indian passport holder and married in Pakistan, was spotted at the Attari border with her son as she to leave. "My five-year-old son is a Pakistani national. He has to go back as the Indian government has ordered all Pakistanis to leave the country in 48 hours, but he cannot travel alone. Nobody is there to take care of my child in Pakistan as my mother-in-law is bedridden. My visa was still valid for more than two months, Please help me.''
Another woman with Indian passport Afshin Jahangir threatened to consume poison if she is not allowed to meet her parents.
On the women complaining about India's decision to cancel the visas, a user added: "So, Sania Mirza marrying a Pakistani wasn't a one-off case. Still don't understand why these women marry Pakistani Muslim men. Aren't there enough decent Muslim men in India? Even Sania Mirza did the same thing and got what she deserved." Another added: "The Pakistani VISA cancellation process has revealed how many people in India have gotten their daughters married to Pakistani men in the last few decades."
One netizen attacked the Indian tennis sensation: "The central government has asked Pakistanis to leave India. Will Sania Mirza have to leave too?"
Sania Mirza's Marriage And Divorce
Sania Mirza had tied the knot with Shoaib Malik in Hyderabad in April 2010. However, they used to live in Dubai before they decided to end their marriage in 2023.
They have a son Izhaan Mirza Malik who was born in Hyderabad. However, he is an Indian citizen, as per a report in Deccan Chronicle.
A Deputy Passport Officer had earlier told the English publication: "A child having parents of two different nationalities used to automatically get an Indian passport if he or she was born in India. But the rules have changed. Now, the child's name has to be registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs to get an Indian passport."
