Narendra Modi Elected NDA Leader Again, Prepares for Third Term
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to lead India for a third consecutive term, following a decisive victory in the recent Lok Sabha elections. In a significant political development, Modi chaired a meeting with members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), where he was unanimously chosen to spearhead the coalition government once again. This meeting, attended by prominent leaders from 16 different parties, marks a pivotal moment in India's political landscape.

The NDA MPs are scheduled to formally elect Modi as their leader on June 7, after which they will proceed to present their letters of support to the President. According to HAM Secular leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, the new government is expected to be sworn in over the coming weekend. This swift action aims to prevent any uncertainty that could be exploited by an energized opposition.
The distribution of ministries and other negotiation terms between the BJP and its allies will play a crucial role in determining the exact timing of the swearing-in ceremony. The meeting saw attendance from notable figures such as TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, among others.
Prime Minister Modi took to X to express his gratitude towards the NDA partners, emphasizing the coalition's commitment to national progress and regional aspirations. "We will serve the 140 crore people of India and work towards building a Viksit Bharat," Modi stated, highlighting the alliance's dedication to uplifting living standards and fostering overall development while preserving the country's heritage.
A resolution passed during the meeting underscored the NDA government's intention to continue its efforts towards improving people's lives and achieving comprehensive development. The resolution also celebrated the unified front presented by the NDA under Modi's leadership during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, which resulted in a comfortable victory with 293 seats, securing a third term for Modi—a feat not achieved by any ruling alliance since 1962.
Despite the BJP not securing a majority on its own, unlike in previous terms, the party showcased a united front with its allies during the meeting. Leaders from various NDA constituents reaffirmed their support for Modi, praising his vision for India and his contributions towards enhancing the nation's stature globally.
This election victory not only signifies a historic mandate for Modi and the NDA but also sets a new direction for India's future. With a clear vision for a developed India and a strong coalition backing him, Modi's leadership is poised to embark on another term aimed at nation-building and fulfilling the aspirations of its vast population.
