Nagpur Mumbai Duronto Express derails, several train services to Mumbai hit

The Nagpur Mumbai Duronto Express has derailed near Titwala. The incident at Maharashtra took place on the wee hours of Tuesday. The incident took place between Vasind and Asangaon.
Kasara and Asangaon suburban trains are running up to Titwala only. CSTM-Howrah Gitanjali Express has been diverted as a result of the accident.Four trains have been diverted via Kalyan-Lonavala-Pune-Daund-Manmad.

Five coaches and and an engine of the train have derailed, but no loss of lives have been reported.No major injuries to passengers has been reported. The reason behind the accident is being attributed due to heavy rains. Mud and rocks had come on to the tracks owing to heavy rains. However the driver showed great presence of mind and pulled the brakes in the nick of time as a result of which a major accident was averted. The driver had also complained of poor visibility owing to fog. Local train services towards Mumbai have been hit due to this accident.

Meanwhile senior railway officials have rushed to the spot. Doctors too have been pressed into service and buses have reached the spot to ferry the passengers.
On August 19 the Puri-Haridwar Express derailed near Khatauli in Uttar Pradesh in which at least 21 persons were killed. Following these incidents Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had offered to quit but was told to wait by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
