Lok Sabha Election 2024: 0% Voter Turnout In 6 Nagaland Districts Amid Shutdown Call

Polling personnel in six eastern districts of Nagaland waited for nine hours in booths, but not one of the four lakh voters of the region turned up following a shutdown call given by Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO), a prominent body representing seven tribal groups in the region, to press for its demand for 'Frontier Nagaland Territory' (FNT), PTI reported.

The authorities had set up a total of 2,342 polling booths, out of which, 588 polling stations were marked critical. However, people boycotted polling following the ENPO's call.

The polling began at 7 am, but till 11:00 am polling officers were shocked as nobody came to exercise his or her vote. The turn was marked 0% on polling day, which concluded at 4:00 pm.

Congress nominee S Supongmeren Jamir, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) candidate Chumben Murry and Independent Hayithung Tungoe Lotha are contesting the elections. The ENPO, which has asked people not to vote in the polls to press for its demand for a separate state, imposed an indefinite total shutdown in the eastern part of the state since 6 pm on Thursday.
