Mumbai Parsis want metro alignment to be changed as it passes under their holy shrine

One such Atash Behram, under which tunnel is supposed to pass, is the Wadia fire temple on JSS Road at the Princess Street junction.

Mumbai's Parsi community wants the alignment of Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 be changed as the corridor is slated to pass right under two Parsi holy places.

They feel that the holy places would lose sanctity as the metro tunnel would break the sacred fire's contact with the earth.

A portion of the metro tunnel would pass under two notable fire temples in south Mumbai, one of whcih is an Atash Behram. There are eight Atash Behrams in India, where holy fires burn. These are revered by Parsis in India. An Atash Behram is the highest grade of a fire that can be placed in a Zoroastrian fire temple.

One such Atash Behram, under which tunnel is supposed to pass, is the Wadia fire temple on JSS Road at the Princess Street junction.

Representatives from the Parsi community met Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday, seeking his intervention.

Shiv Sena MLA Pandurang Sakpal, who attended the meeting, said that Thackeray would speak to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) over the issue.
