India Condemns Attack On GFS Galaxy Off Oman Coast, One Indian Sailor Missing, 10 Rescued

India has shown its displeasure on the attack on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy at coast of Oman. That attack led to one Indian sailor is missing and 10 have been rescued. This incident took place at the time when tensions are global high for Strait of Hormuz pass, when the security concerns are too high after US and Iran's confrontation continues.

The MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) said Indian authorities are in touch with Oman officials and are search for that one missing crew member. MEA also raised concern for the troubles commercial ships are facing in the region.

India Confirms Rescue of 10 Nationals, Search Continues

MEA has confirmed that vessel was carrying 11 Indians when they came under attack in Omani coast. However, 10 sailors have been rescued, but one sailor is still missing.

"We condemn the attack on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman, earlier today. Of the 11 Indian nationals on board, 10 have been rescued so far, while one Indian national is reportedly missing," the MEA said in a statement.

MEA also added, "Our Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and proactively coordinating with the Omani authorities in the ongoing Search and Rescue operation. We thank the Omani authorities for their support."

India also raised concern about repeating attacks on commercial shipping.

"The targeting of commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure in the region must end, and free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through the international waterways in the region, in keeping with international law, must be restored at the earliest," MEA added in the statement.

Iran Closes Strait of Hormuz After Maritime Incident

The attack happened in the times when US and Iran have locked their horns, Iranian authorities have already announced that Strait of Hormuz had been closed till the further announcement. The decision came after Iranian Revolutionary Guards fired on Cyprus-flagged container ship.

According to Iran, the vessel was moving through the restricted route and multiple ships ignored their warnings to use the approved corridor. The guards said that they fired first as a warning to one vessel to stop before completely announcing shut.

Interestingly, Strait of Hormuz is one of the World's busiest routes and it is very important for global oil and gas supplies all over the world. Any distruption to Hormuz turns bigger concern for international trade.
