MPs Will Receive A Special Hamper On 1st Day At New Parliament Building

The members of the Parliament are all set to receive a special hamper of a copy of the Constitution of India, a commemorative coin featuring the new Parliament, and a postage stamp on the first day at the new Parliament building on Tuesday.

Reportedly, MPs would receive their gift hampers after the Central Hall function. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren have also been invited to speak to commemorate the country's rich parliamentary legacy.

The first session of the special Parliament session was held at the old building of the Parliament on Monday where the two Houses discussed the 'Parliamentary journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha - Achievements, Experiences, Memories and Learnings' on the first day.

While the Lok Sabha is set to meet at 1:15 pm on Tuesday at the new building, the Rajya Sabha will meet at 2:15 pm.

Earlier on Monday, PM Modi addressed the special Parliament session with an emotional speech from the old Parliament building for the last time. He recalled the contributions of former prime ministers including Jawaharlal Nehru, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Manmohan Singh during his speech, paid tributes to the country's democratic traditions, and spoke about the history and legacy of the Parliament building.

PM Modi said, "As we bid goodbye to this Parliament house, we must remember that though this house was built by the colonial government, it was built by our sweat and toil, by our countrymen and with our money."

While paying tribute to every brick of the old Parliament, PM Modi said MPs will enter the new complex with "new hope and confidence".

The new building of the Parliament complex was inaugurated on May 28 by PM Modi.
