Modi's Ambition for 400 Lok Sabha Seats Sparks Opposition Concerns Over Constitutional Integrity
Sharad Pawar, leader of the NCP SP, stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed for 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. He suggested Modi's focus was on altering the Indian Constitution. Speaking at a campaign rally in Bhosari before the Maharashtra assembly elections, Pawar highlighted the opposition's concerns about BJP's intentions towards democracy.

During the Lok Sabha elections, Modi's pursuit of 400 seats raised eyebrows. Typically, securing 300 to 350 seats is seen as a strong majority. Pawar explained that this unusual target led them to believe Modi's real interest lay in the Constitution crafted by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. The opposition feared BJP might attempt to modify the Constitution and limit citizens' rights.
Opposition Unites Against BJP
In response to these concerns, Pawar mentioned that key leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Uddhav Thackeray, and Akhilesh Yadav joined forces. They decided to collectively resist what they perceived as a threat to democracy. This coalition aimed to counter any potential moves by BJP that could undermine democratic principles.
Pawar expressed pride in Maharashtra's support for the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi. The state awarded them 31 out of 48 Lok Sabha seats. This outcome was seen as a significant step in preventing any constitutional changes that could affect people's rights.
