Meet Vijay Kiran Anand, The IAS Officer Leading Mahakumbh 2025 With Confidence
The Mahakumbh has officially commenced along the sacred banks of the Sangam in Prayagraj. On Tuesday, over 3.5 crore devotees including saints and seers, took a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam for the first Amrit Snan of this grand spiritual gathering. To ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the event, extensive security arrangements have been implemented.
The Mahakumbh, which began on January 13 and will run until February 26, is expected to be a monumental and historic event. This year, the responsibility of organizing the Mahakumbh has been entrusted to IAS officer Vijay Kiran Anand, whose leadership is fueling optimism for a successful celebration.

Who is IAS officer Vijay Kiran Anand?
Vijay Kiran Anand, an IAS officer of the 2009 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, hails from Bengaluru and holds a Chartered Accountant qualification. His administrative journey began as SDM in Baghpat district, followed by roles as Chief Development Officer in Barabanki and District Collector in districts like Mainpuri, Unnao, Firozabad, Varanasi, and Shahjahanpur.
Anand is no stranger to managing grand events. He previously oversaw the Magh Mela in 2017 and the Ardh Kumbh Mela in 2019. This year, as the chief officer for Mahakumbh 2025 and Mela Adhikari for 2024, his vast experience is expected to enhance the scale and organization of the event. Notably, during his tenure as DM of Gorakhpur, he received the prestigious Prime Minister Award 2020 from PM Narendra Modi on Civil Services Day.
The Mahakumbh's second major bathing festival coincided with Makar Sankranti. The Amrit Snan of Akhara saints began early Tuesday morning. By 10 am, the fair administration reported that 1.38 crore devotees had taken the sacred dip at the Sangam.
The saints of Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani and Shri Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara were among the first to participate in the Amrit Snan, chanting "Har Har Mahadev" as they immersed themselves in the holy waters.
Following the Amrit Snan, Mahamandaleshwar Chetan Giri Ji Maharaj of Mahanirvani Akhara expressed the spiritual significance of the event, saying,"Every 12 years, a Purna Kumbh is held in Prayagraj. After 12 Purna Kumbhs, this Maha Kumbh occurs once every 144 years. Only the most fortunate individuals get the rare opportunity to bathe in the Maha Kumbh."
This Mahakumbh is not only a celebration of faith but also a testament to India's rich cultural and spiritual heritage, drawing millions of devotees from around the world to Prayagraj.
